Huizhong Village saves on energy
HUIZHONG Village in Pujiang Town is turning itself into Shanghai's first energy-saving village with the help of Minhang's Science and Technology Committee.
All the roads in the village have been lined with solar and wind-powered lamps; each household is equipped with LED energy-saving light bulbs; kitchens are being converted into infrared stoves, which can save about one-third of the energy normally used in cooking.
This month, villagers' air-conditioning units are being given an additive which could help save 10 to 15 percent of energy and extend the lifetime of the compressor units.
