Illegal meat warehouse is shuttered
AN illegal meat producer in Huacao’s Jixi Village has been put out of business by the Minhang Food Inspection Agency.
According to authorities, the man surnamed Guan, 33, his wife and two younger brothers were passing off cheap cuts of pork as prime beef and lamb, using pirated brand labels. Guan has been arrested and is awaiting trial.
Guan and his accomplices reportedly sold over 10,000 boxes of the bogus meat, raking in tens of thousands of yuan, inspectors said.
The meat was sold to local markets, which in turn sold it to local households. Guan faces a maximum sentence of three years in prison.
