Innovative zone supports more handcraft women

SEVERAL months ago, the inheritor of Xinzhuang crochet art, Jin Longhua, was worried that her handcraft may be lost because of the lack of working space.
But now, she's got about 100 square meters of workshop for manufacturing and displaying her goods. With so many orders, she's had to call on female friends who lost their jobs to work with her.
Jin's new workshop is one part of the 439 Innovative Industrial Zone.
Located in 439 Jinglian Road, Meilong Town, the zone is mainly comprised of fiber art workshops where most employees are female.
It recently signed an agreement with the Women's Federation of Minhang to offer more job positions for local females.
It also supports women with an interest in starting their own business.
For those interested in the fiber art industry, the 439 Zone will provide them with a series of services such as skills training, design, product packaging and sales.
So far, some women like Jin have already opened their own shop. For these starters, the zone has already remitted the site cost and property expense for the first half year.
Recently, the 439 Zone selected 60 women who have basic crocheting skills for a further training course. The course covers various levels of crochet, from the elementary stitch to color designing.
The training is almost free. The only fee they have to pay is the cost of the graduate certificate, which is 50 yuan (US$7.32).
The crochet art is not simply a work of skill. It also requires some imagination and sensitivity to beauty. Therefore, the 439 Zone also creates some opportunities to pay visits to crochet art exhibitions.
"Those beautiful products on display can improve their aesthetic standards and give them more inspiration," says an official of the 439 Zone.
