Job fair for former Expo employees

ON the morning of November 5, 22-year-old Zhang Ya arrived at the employment service center on Guanghua Road in Zhuanqiao Town to attend the Minhang Expo Employees Job Fair. Zhang worked at the Expo site for more than three months but now the Expo has finished, she needs a new job.

According to local administration, there are about 1,200 people in Minhang who worked at the Expo. After the event, 950 of them remain in employment, while the other 250 or so people are without work. To help them find new employment, the district administration human resources held a job fair and offered more than 800 jobs in various fields. Almost all of the jobless Expo employees attended interviews and 60 of them reached agreements with new employers.

With the employment service center hall full of job seekers, some Minhang companies were also very interested and active at the fair. Guoli Vehicle Decoration Company, Barong Food Company and Tongdement Investment Management Company were not originally involved in the fair, but came along and set up their desks voluntarily. They thought those interviewees who worked at the Expo were hard working, of high quality and possessing good customer service abilities, and the businesses felt they should take the responsibility to solve their employment problem.

Within half an hour, Guoli Company had received a lot of resumes from former Expo employees. According to the company's human resources department, they will give priority to hiring former Expo staff over job seekers of the same standard.

Following the job fair, Minhang human resources administration will do another survey on the employment of Minhang's former Expo employees. And for those who are still jobless, they will receive employment guidance from the government and at the Spring Festival another chance to meet employers face-to-face will be available for them. The human resource administration will also make offering follow-up services to every single person who has not got a new job an important daily task.
