Jumping the queues at hospitals
So much is said and written about the agonizing long queues in hospitals. Minhang Convenient Hospitals is the latest app trying to address the problem.
Launched in January, it was developed by the Minhang Health and Family Planning Commission and is the first app of its kind designed for district-wide use. It is one of 10 practical projects earmarked for the district this year.
After registering via the app, users can link healthcare and hospital cards to the account. Other services include making appointments, checking on the length of patient queues and paying for healthcare services. Test results and diagnoses can also be sent to user tablets.
Minhang Central Hospital and Xinzhuang Community Health Center completed trials of the new app at the end of last year. Some 3,500 residents registered and 3,456 appointments were made.
Utilization of the app has been shown to save five minutes off the consulting time and reduce queuing by up to 20 minutes. Payment by the app saves patients another 20 minutes from standing in cashier lines.
鈥淏y promoting this app, we are making it easier for residents to go to hospital,鈥 said Yu Wenhang, director of the commission.
There are still glitches to iron out. The app at present can be used only for outpatient services, and patients covered by medical insurance cannot use the app to pay.
Developers of the app said they would refine its use, adding more services and gathering public feedback.
Among the services to be added after the Chinese New Year are vaccination appointments for children and map navigation.
The commission said it wants to have three hospitals and 12 community health centers in the district using the app by the end of this year.
