Keeping tabs on kindy kids

A NEW application for mobile devices was recently released for parents who want to monitor their children’s activities in kindergartens.

Some 45 kindergartens in the district are now using the app, called “Little Bean’s Home.” It is currently serving more than 1,670 teachers and 31,500 parents.

Developed by the Shanghai KidsTong Technology Co, the app allows teachers to post pictures and videos of children in kindergartens so that parents can watch their activities from home or work. The device also enables parents to have online chats with teachers.

“I believe every parent worries at one point or another how a child is doing in kindergarten,” said Jenny Chen, mother of a four-year-old boy. “So the app helps soothe the anxiety.”

The company said development of the app was completed last September. Before being officially launched, it underwent trial operation in several kindergartens. The feedback showed that 93 percent of teachers and 98 percent of the parents were satisfied with its functions and results.

Apart from instant communications, the app also creates a personal archive for every child, which records health and activity data.

“It is like a small museum for my son,” said Chen. “And it is easy to show doctors if they ever need to assess his health.”

This year, all 129 public kindergartens in Minhang will start using the app, according to the district education bureau. It will cover more than 35,000 children.

The company said more functions will be added to the app in future updates, including an identity authentication for parents and a nutritional analysis of meals provided for children in kindergarten.
