Library’s e-books can be used free for up to 45 days

Legal editions of electronic books are now available free at Minhang Library. The books can be borrowed for up to 45 days.
An e-book machine at the entrance of the library on the first floor of Chunshen Culture Square helps borrowers with the “check-out” process. It scans the code of the book and sends its immediately to a personal phone or computer for reader.
Minhang e-library has a repository of more than 2,000 books and growing. The library says about 20,000 e-books are borrowed from the library every month, almost the same level as “real” books.
“This volume of e-books available is not large,” said a librarian, surnamed Chen. “We want to attract more readers with this free service and will keep adding to the books available.”
The system is currently available only to Android system users, but an Apple version will start up in several weeks. The library also provides another digital service for smartphone users. They can find information on any book in any bookstore by scanning its digital code.
