THE Expo Shanghai site occupies about 3.28 square kilometers. In such a huge area, buses become an important transport option.
About 300 to 400 new energy buses have been put into use, and most of them are produced by the Minhang Sunwin Bus Corporation.
There are three kinds of new buses operating in different areas and the super electric buses will be used in the Expo site. They can recharge for 3-5 kilometers running in a short time at stops with no emissions. Compared with similar technology which is already in use on the No. 11 bus, the Expo bus will have bigger batteries, shorter charging time and longer running hours.
Another kind of electric bus which can run 150-200 kilometers on one charge will be used as the cross-river bus. Since the Expo will run through different seasons, this demanded a high standard on the performance of the bus. So when producing the vehicle, Sunwin put it through a simulated tough environment to test its responses.
Around the Expo site there's the third kind of bus which uses new energy mixed with oil and electric power. It could save about 30 percent of oil.
Since there's a big market for this kind of bus, Sunwin is now planning to promote it to the domestic market after the Expo.
