Low income housing complex starts construction

CONSTRUCTION has begun on a 120,000-square-meter housing complex for low-income residents in the Junlian Xincheng and Xiangtaiyuan neighborhoods on Douhui and Huguang roads.

The budget housing project is aimed at benefiting low-wage earners and families with financial difficulties. The houses are sold 30-40 percent cheaper than current market prices.

Only people with low incomes are allowed to buy these flats. The detailed qualifications for purchase are being drafted and are scheduled to be announced in the second half of this year.

The Minhang Bureau of Land Resources and Housing Management has purchased about 110,000 square meters of flats for the budget housing project. It plans to set aside more than 600,000 square meters by 2012.

Last year, the bureau bought 200 apartments covering about 13,000 square meters in the Junlian Xincheng Neighborhood and another 400 flats in nearby Xiangtaiyuan Neighborhood, a trial purchase before the 120,000-square-meter construction.

Each apartment is less than 80 square meters in size but has convenient public transport networks nearby, such as Metro Line 5 and bus stations.
