Man detained over 5 killings

A man surnamed Yuan was detailed by police this month in Huacao Town, a day after five family members were found stabbed to death.
Police said the tragedy unfolded on July 2 in three different venues. In a residential building in Weixing Village, a woman was found dead. Neighbors told police they heard a big fight between the victim and her husband Yuan, but they didn't pay much attention.
On the same evening, in an apartment about five minutes' walk away, a couple was found murdered. Local residents said they heard a scream and saw a man in camouflage clothing walking out of the apartment.
Late that evening, another couple was stabbed in Hongxing Village, about seven kilometers from Weixing Village in Huacao Town. The victims' son said he returned home to find his parents unconscious with multiple wounds. Both died later in hospital.
The police said the two couples were relatives of Yuan but didn't cite their precise relationships.
Yuan and his family came from Yancheng in Jiangsu Province. He earned a living by transporting sand around Weixing Village.
The police said the case is still under investigation.
