Map paints picture of Minhang
RECENTLY, 68,000 "Play in Minhang" maps have been sent out to all the towns and communities in Minhang District. Unlike most maps, the content of this map is hand painted.
It gathers information on 85 tourism spots in the district and public transport. According to local administration, it's the first time for Minhang to promote tourism in this way.
The front of the map introduces several famous Minhang landmarks such as Qibao Old Town, Jinjiang Park and Hongqiao Hub.
New tourist attractions such as Zhaojia Lou and Culture Agritainment are also strongly recommended on the map.
Grand shopping locations such as Nanfang Department Store and Xinzhuang Zhongsheng Shopping Center are also included. If you require detailed information on any of the places on the map, addresses and phone numbers are provided.
In addition, all the public transport routes, including buses and metro lines have been marked clearly on the map.
There are even some recommended travel agencies' numbers listed on the map to make it more convenient for new visitors.
All the roads and main tourist destinations have been drawn on the map with irregular lines and simple shapes.
All the buildings, parks and tourist spots on the map look interesting and vivid. Famous hotels and restaurants are also included.
"The hand-painted map shows the picture of the development in Minhang District in a relaxing way," says Chen Jian, the vice director of Minhang Tourism Bureau.
According to Chen's introduction, the map has been updated twice.
"The first edition only had hand-painted contents. Altogether 10,000 maps were sent out in May," says Chen.
"The second edition was printed on silk scarves, making it also a souvenir."
"This time, we have improved it further, making it more user-friendly."
According to Chen, they will consider adjusting the contents of the hand-painted part after the Expo and renew the information.
On the night of September 24, the award ceremony for the Yangtze River Delta Tap Dance Invitational Tournament was held in Wujing Stadium to open the 2010 Golden Autumn Minhang Community Culture Festival. Thirty tap dance teams from Minhang and Yangtze River Delta region gave special performances on the remarkable night. And until yesterday, various wonderful performances have been delivered to Minhang citizens.
The rich history of Minhang has been displayed in different ways during the festival. In Pujiang Town, the Dongxiang Culture Pavilion which shows local agricultural history has formally opened to the public, introducing the daily life and cultural relics of local ancestors; in Maqiao Town, a special poem reading party themed "Poem of Bridge" was held in Hanxiang Water Exposition Garden; in Zhuanqiao Town, folk activities as part of the Double Ninth Festival and Zhuzhai Lamb Festival displayed local folk culture to the visitors.
Since the Minhang Community Culture Festival was held during the Shanghai International Art Festival, performances of the International Art Festival have also been introduced at Shanghai City Theater. Art troupes from Korea, Kenya and Chile have brought Minhang citizens a different foreign art feast in the past month.
