Metro Line 8 test trials five new stations

TEST runs started on the extension of Metro Line 8 earlier this month.

The route along Puxing Road traverses Pujiang Town with five stations, namely Luheng Road, Pujiang Town, Jiangyue Road, Lianhang Road and Aerospace Museum (above) stations.

Each station is equipped with a 1.2-meter-wide turnstile, twice the size of gates in the current Metro stations, in order to facilitate passengers with large luggage and wheelchair users.

Apart from the underground Luheng Road Station, the other four elevated stations have air-conditioned passenger lounges. Toilets are at the western tip on the first floor. At Jiangyue Road Station, a new overpass is built to link the station and the World Expo Community.

The Metro line connects some of the tourist attractions in the remote Pujiang Town.

A large-scale green park is just opposite the Luheng Road Station across Puxing Road. The green belt is built on the brow of a hill, which is about 15 meters high and more than 2 kilometers long. It has become a shelter place for local residents in the hot summer to cool down.

Southwest of the Pujiang Town Station is Chenhang Old Street, which features Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) architecture, such as a 100-year-old rice market, the Sanshou Hall of Hu's family (a local landlord in Qing Dynasty) and many others.

Construction of the Aerospace Museum building will start soon.
