Motobike chips embedded for theft prevention
JIANGCHUAN Town will install theft-proof chips inside the mopeds of 10,000 residents next month, free of charge.
Mopeds with embedded chips can be traced easily by police if they are stolen.
The chip is similar to a GPS system. The chips will carry their owner’s ID number and mobile phone number. With an app, a user will be able to lock the moped and activate the security system.
If the bike is moved while in lock status, a message will be sent to the owner’s mobile, with a suggestion to phone police. At the same time, the chip will act as a locator for the bike.
However, if the bike is moved beyond the jurisdiction of Jiangchuan police, retrieving it becomes more problematical.
Lou Qichuan, deputy head of Jiangchuan Town said that the theft-proof chip, first installed in the Pudong New Area, has proven remarkably effective.
Residents in Jiangchuan with a legal moped license can apply for the chip through their neighborhood committees. Priority in distributing the chips will be given to those who are financially disadvantaged, serve as community volunteers or have previously had mopeds stolen.
The first 120 signal receivers will be distributed by the end of the month.
