New center aims to aid technology of Internet
CONSTRUCTION on China's first industrial center focused on Internet audio-visual technology has started in Minhang's Zizhu Science Park.
The China (Shanghai) Internet Audio-Visual Industry Base, also known as the Shanghai Zizhu Digital Innovation Hub, will encompass about 400,000 square meters.
The hub will incorporate a theme square, a new media research and development zone and support facilities.
There will be also be a cloud-computing center, a multi-media HD production center and an international exchange center included in the park.
The hub is expected to generate revenue of more than 20 billion yuan (US$3 billion) a year in the next decade. It was started with an investment of about 3.5 billion yuan.
The base is a joint effort between the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television and the Shanghai municipal government. More than 15 companies have already signed agreements to locate in the base.
The park will give a big boost to the development of Internet-based industries, a city official said. Shanghai has targeted Internet-related technology as a key part of its industrial innovation plans.
Shanghai mayor Han Zheng said the city would use the base as a platform to further improve the industrial development environment and speed up the construction of public service platforms in scientific and technological innovation and talent training. Han added this will attract more companies in the digital field to locate in Shanghai.
