New homes for the elderly open doors
QIBAO Geracomium and Jiangchuan Nursing Home are the latest facilities to join Minhang’s services to the elderly.
So far, some 30 older people have moved into Qibao Geracomium. After three weeks, resident Shi Xiulian said she likes her new surroundings.
“My children are very busy,” she said. “Here we get whatever attention we need, and the meals aren’t bad. It’s certainly more comfortable than my home.”
Qibao Geracomium is equipped with medical apparatus, fitness facilities and gardens to take strolls. The balconies of each room are connected, allowing residents to socialize while taking in a bit of fresh air.
Shen Guoying, director of the Minhang Working Commission on Aging, said more services for the elderly are on tap in the district.
Qibao Town plans to add 1,458 nursing home beds and 12 homes for the aged by the end of 2020.
“Doctors at these facilities do weekly rounds to keep tabs on the health of residents,” Shen said. “And everything is in place to handle emergencies that may arise.”
Jiangchuan Nursing Home is allied with the Jiangchuan Community Health Center so that residents can easily access the same healthcare services provided in hospitals.
Lu Xiaoyan, vice director of Jiangchuan, said the facility is the face of the future.
“By connecting more facilities together, we can share medical resources and provide more activities to residents,” Lu added.
About 100 elderly people have already moved into Jiangchuan Nursing Home, with more expected after the Chinese New Year.
Residents qualify for the nursing homes based on their health conditions. The facilities are open only to those who living in Minhang.
