New museum contains rare history items
THE Minhang History Museum will be opened to the public by the end of this year in Chunshen Cultural Square.
It includes ancient art pieces by celebrities in history, the personal written instructions of emperors during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), the first batch of documents related to the setup of Minhang Economic and Development Zone, the first of that kind built in Shanghai in the early 1980s, and many other precious files.
Covering an area of more than 800 square meters, the museum will display the district's ups and downs from 1291 to the modern era. Exhibits include the first land certificates of Maqiao Town released in 1950 and 1951 when China launched the land reform as Shanghai was liberated, memorials to the throne in old China and government documents from early days when the People's Republic of China was founded.
The files of 1955 show that the district had more than 17,000 pigs, 4,471 of which were exported to other provinces. It was the key industry for the district and the most vital income source for local farmers.
"The whole project will be finished by year-end and not only locals but also tourists are warmly welcomed to learn about Minhang's past," said staff member Zhang Qingyu.
