New transport hub evolves
CONSTRUCTION work is continuing on the Xinzhuang transport hub, will incorporate two existing Metro lines, two new Metro lines and a rail link to the Shanghai-Hangzhou high-speed train.
Once completed, it will be the largest integrated transport hub in southwestern Shanghai, with projected daily passenger traffic of 546,000. Two new Metro lines and the rail link are expected to come into operation before 2015.
In addition to the existing Metro lines 1 and 5, the new hub will include the new Metro lines 22 and 17.
Line 22 will make use of the existing single-track Jinshan railway and will link Xuhui and Jinshan districts, passing through Minhang and Songjiang districts.
The 56.4-kilometer line will have nine stops: the South Railway Station in Xuhui; Xinzhuang and Chunshen in Minhang; Xinqiao, Minxi, Yexie in Songjiang; and Tinglin, Ruanxiang and Jinshan in Jinshan.
The line is expected to start operation on October 1. Both nonstop trains and regular train service will operate on the line. It will take 30 minutes to travel from the South Railway Station to Jinshan on nonstop service, and 50 minutes on regular service.
Metro Line 17 - a temporary number assignment that may change - will connect the Baoshan District and Xinzhuang. It will run through the Hongqiao Transport Hub, the Qibao area and Xinzhuang in Minhang. Its stops will include Nenjiang Road, Jiangwan Stadium, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, the Pengpu residential complex and Nanxiang.
The third line in the hub plan is a new rail link that forms part of the Shanghai-Hangzhou high-speed rail line project. Once completed, passengers can enjoy high-speed train service from Xinzhuang directly to Hangzhou.
The hub development plan calls for underground parking for 600. At southern and northern squares of the hub, there will be parking space for 7,000 bicycles.
A blueprint of the transport hub is on display at the Urban Planning and Land Management Administration office in Minhang.
