Minhang has been designated one of 13 nationwide pilot regions for the integration of civilian and military intellectual property. It is the only area of Shanghai included in the program under the China National Intellectual Property Administration and a department at the Central Military Commission. The pilot regions will work on eight targets, including a gradual relaxation of certain controls on national defense patents.
