Police action just a mouse-click away
WHEN Shi from a Minhang company needed help from Tangwan Police Station to identify an interviewee who had lost his ID card, he got a response to his Internet request within 10 minutes.
"I used to feel wary of asking for police help because of the long procedures, long queues and long distance," said Shi. "But now we've got the online police office, I can just stay at work, click my mouse and get things done."
Clicking the mouse to get police help is now very common for the 185 companies such as Microsoft and Intel in Zizhu High-tech Zone.
However just two years ago it was not so easy. The police service was not highly regarded because of low efficiency and inconvenience.
But things changed when the first online police office of Shanghai -- Zizhu Online Police Office -- was set up in June 2007. Since then, more online police stations have been established in Minhang to benefit more citizens.
"Now there are 260 police offices all over the district offering services such as online reservation and law consultation," said He Guoqiang, an official from Minhang Police Station.
He is currently developing the new strategy for online police offices.
"To ensure a safe Expo, the function of online police offices should be more emphasized," said He.
"We're now considering how to further simplify our Website to make it more practical. We do hope our citizens can access to more civil services just by clicking their mouse," he said.
