Public airs views on new website
THE Minhang District government has opened a weibo.com page called "Shanghai Minhang," using the Chinese Twitter-style site to serve as an interactive communication channel between the government and the public.
The site offers a rich package of information, such as weather forecasts, book recommendations, exhibition and performance previews, traffic tips, health and fire safety announcements, volunteer events, people profiles, job fairs, vegetable prices, charity events, discount information and fun facts about Minhang.
Let's take a peek at some of the comments recently posted on the site:
On March 5, a netizen identified as Qi Yongnian asked when households in Qibao area will have their TV network updated from analog to digital. The district's administration of radio, film and television replied, "This year, the district plans to finish the network update for 400,000 households in Minhang, and work in Qibao will start in the second half of this year." Qi's response: "Quick response! Very Good!"
A netizen identified as "teresa_h_w" posted the following comment on the site, "As a newcomer to Minhang, I hope more than anyone else that it will become a livable area. But a livable area not only involves greenery and housing, but also improving people's behavior, such as not jaywalking or throwing garbage off high buildings. The optical network construction of Minhang should be sped up as well."
Another netizen identified as Qingshui Jiujing called for more efficient cleaning of dog droppings off streets.
Among the most popular information on the site were a listing of the 10 famous snacks in Qibao, free physical examinations for senior citizens in Pujiang Town, tips to avoid traps for those who plan to purchase cars, and the plum exhibition at Xinzhuang Park.
A post inviting people living, working or studying in Minhang to submit essays about their experiences to celebrate the 20-year anniversary of the district also drew a big response.
The public seems very pleased indeed.
"Thanks to the opening of the weibo site, people in Minhang are able to see an avalanche of information and entertainment," one netizen commented online.
On the first day the site was opened, it attracted 4,349 users. As of March 29, the number has reached 17,569.
