Public unaware of new real estate center
MINHANG has opened up a new real estate exhibition center as a convenience to home hunters, though most buyers don't seem aware of the new service.
The center, located next to the Minhang District Real Estate Trade Center, is displaying the residential offerings of top developers, such as China Vanke, Overseas Chinese Town Holding Co and Poly Real Estate Group Co.
"It's like an ongoing real estate expo," said Wang Wei, an official with the Minhang District Housing Management Bureau. "It is open at no charge everyday except national holidays."
The center will also handle on-site inspections for potential buyers interested in certain properties and will provide trends in housing prices.
A buyer surnamed Zhang who visited the center on its opening day said he found it all very interesting.
"In the past, I had to go to several companies when looking for an apartment, and that can be really exhausting," he said. "Now I can have get a general idea of all the real estate available in the district within 10 minutes."
Zhang added, "Since the exhibition center is government-authorized, I think I can trust the promotion information here. In other cases, you always get the feeling you may be being tricked by developers."
The bureau said the new center is the first of its kind in Shanghai, but word has yet to become widespread about its existence.
There have been no more than 10 visitors to the center every day since it opened, in stark comparison to the bustling trade center next door.
"The facade of the new center is too small and far from eye-catching," said Zheng Qi, a visitor to the center. "If it wasn't for the trade center officials next door who pointed me in this direction, I doubt I would have found the place."
The bureau said signage will be posted guiding people to the new center.
"For the past two weeks, no new housing information has been introduced in the real estate exhibition center," said Wang. "We believe that once more new housing is on display, more buyers will be attracted there."
In addition, the center will expand the scope of its exhibitions, he said, to add budget housing projects.
