Romance of Paris at La Rive Gauche cinema
THINK of Paris and La Rive Gauche, the left bank of the Seine that winds through districts dotted with cafes, bookstores, galleries, art museums and more.
La Rive Gauche was once the home for French intellectuals such as Sartre and a magnet for overseas writers such as Hemingway and painters like Picasso.
Standing for cultural heritage, the name is about to be brought to Shanghai for a new international cinema.
Built by Beijing Zuoanfeng Investment Management Corporation, Shanghai's La Rive Gauche International Cinema is about to welcome audiences on the 5th floor of Hongqiao Trade Hall at 528 Jinhui Road.
Chandeliers
Living up to its name, the cinema bears fashionable decorations with high taste.
Crystal-like glass chandeliers hang from the ceiling of the 400-square-meter reception hall, forming the shape of the logo of La Rive Gauche.
A three-dimensional poster for the hit movie "Mulan" sits in front of the cinema. A huge mural of the Eiffel Tower also greets guests.
The international cinema has branches in six cities in China, each bearing distinctive local architectural styles.
The one in Minhang District borrows elements from traditional Shanghai shikumen, or stone-gate houses that are familiar to many older residents.
The cinema boasts six screens and 1,085 comfortable chairs made for airlines.
Wider aisles and more space between rows ensure comfort for cinema audiences, and four seats have been set aside for disabled people.
The latest audio system and screen technology promise sharp prints and surround sound.
High-tech screens
Advanced three-dimensional digital projection technology has been used at La Rive Gauche, using Belgian-made Barco digital projectors and Dolby sound.
High-definition screens have been installed by British manufacturer Harkness.
That means the latest special-effects movies can be seen in all their clarity, adding to the sensory experience.
La Rive Gauche Cafe at the entrance of the cinema provides a place to meet the stars. The cinema plans to stage premieres and hold events where audience members can meet film stars.
Normal ticket prices will range from 60 yuan to 80 yuan, but booking hot-line 3468-5399 will offer discounts.
During the Christmas period the cinema will hold activities themed on fashionable life on La Rive Gauche, with lucky draws and prizes.
