Rural schooling to get a major boost
MORE qualified teachers will be encouraged to work at Minhang's rural villages, and non-public schools will be granted a government subsidy to ensure more educational opportunities for students with financial difficulties.
The Minhang Education Bureau released these new policies at a recent district-wide conference.
"They are aimed at offering more varied, equal educational opportunities to our children," said Sun Chao, Minhang's Party secretary.
According to the policies, privately-run educational institutions will be further sponsored by the government. Minhang's non-profit, non-public schools will be provided with educational subsidies, and students with financial problems in private kindergartens, vocational schools and high schools will also receive sponsorship from the government. As well, a foundation is going to be set up to reward teachers.
Schools providing basic education will be managed and monitored by the Minhang Education Bureau next year, which will ensure primary and middle schools at town level and village level receive professional management and guidance from the authority.
In the new semester, headmasters and teachers from the district's key schools are scheduled to be transferred to Minhang's remote areas, bringing educational resources and support to the schools there.
Minhang has made great achievement during the past five years. From 2005 to 2008, 59 standardized middle schools, primary schools and kindergartens were built and put into operation.
In addition, collaboration with Shanghai's prestigious educational institutions has become a new way to supplement Minhang's educational system. Shanghai International Studies University and Shanghai Normal University plan to set up their affiliated middle schools in Pujiang Town and Huacao Town this year.
