Schools turn records into handy e-files

THE project of digitalizing all students records in the Minhang District is in full swing.

By the end of June, data collection will be completed, and an electronic file on each student will be done by the end of August.

The files will record classes, academic performance, health, meals eaten in school canteens, books read and a wealth of data on the school experience. The information will be available on the IPTV platform, a kind of television network.

"We can record the whole development process of students in this way," said Wang Hao, director of the Minhang Education Bureau. "By tracking each student's individual growth, we will be able to provide a wider range of educational services and personal intervention, when needed."

He said the information will also assist students in their quest for college entrance.

Under the system, parents will be able to survey all the information by just turning on their home televisions and using a special remote control device.

The IPTV network will also carry public information on resources available to families in the district.
