Seasonal garden delights

TO view the most spectacular autumn foliage in the district, head for the Minhang Cultural Park or Pujiang Suburban Park.

In the cultural park, Mother Nature has opened her paint box to adorn the landscape in a giddy array of red, pink and yellow.

Just near the park gate is the Garden of a Hundred Flowers. Among its floral attractions are cosmos, marigolds and primroses.

To avail closer contact with flowrers, the garden managers have paved paths in the 6,000-square-meter flower field for visitors to walk into the sea of blossoms.

The garden in Pujiang Suburban Park was carefully landscaped by horticulturists to display some of the most colorful flowers in a setting to dazzle the eyes.

Autumn flowers are at their prime in November and December, with blooms lasting up to 50 days.

More greenery planned

Minhang is stepping up efforts to make the district an urban oasis of greenery. The district plans to add more landscaping to three major roads.

Based on the successful models of Modern Avenue in Suzhou, Calligraphy Greenway in Taizhong and the Garden City, Minhang plans to transform Hongmei Road into a flowerland.

“Mei” means “plum blossoms” in Chinese. In keeping with the name, the district will plant wintersweet, camellias and maples along Hongmei Road.

A 40,000-square-meter wetland park is also in the planning.

Located between Yuanjing and Beiwu roads, it will draw water from the nearby Yutang River and feature a designed forest walkway.

In addition, for motorists on the newly opened Hongmei Elevated Road, the district will plant dawn redwoods and camphor trees along the roadsides.
