Seeking the teachers for 2018 classes

Minhang has begun recruiting teachers for the 2018 school year. Some 659 positions are available.
Physical education teachers are particularly in demand amid a campaign by the district education commission to enhance fitness and sports activities.
The recruitment process requires applicants to be experienced and qualified. Those without local registration papers need to meet further requirements.
An initial assessment of applicants will be held on December 9.
Those passing the vetting will move to a second phase of psychological and physical examinations.
To attract the best talent to the district, Minhang provides some benefits, such as free housing for some teachers.
Of the 536 teachers Minhang recruited this year, 335 came from other cities.
The district is working with the House Property Administration to provide apartments for incoming young teachers, with rents subsidized by the government.
The district gives priority to couples who are both teachers.
“I hesitated to become a teacher for quite a while because of the accommodation problem,” said Xu Yanyan, a math teacher recruited this year. “When I read that Minhang provides accommodation for teaches, I decided to apply to work here.”
Ma Guoming, deputy director of Minhang Education Bureau said it’s necessary for the government to help on accommodation because high rents in Shanghai scare off many out-of-towners.
