Shopping mall goes green with improvements

FAMOS Square in the Qibao area has signed a contract to upgrade energy systems at the shopping mall. It will become the first retail center shopping mall in Minhang to go green.

Schneider, the world's biggest maker of circuit-breakers and a global leader in energy management, will help improve the mall's energy efficiency and elevate it to a landmark energy saver in the district.

The upgrade will overhaul air-conditioning and lighting and will install a management system allowing real-time monitoring of energy consumption in different areas of the square on a 24-hour basis.

Other improvements under the contract include the installation of an automatic cleaning system for energy-saving equipment serving the air-conditioning and electricity systems.

The upgrade aims to save at least 900,000 kilowatts of electricity every year, accounting for about a 10 percent of the square's current consumption.

The four-story Famos Square, which opened to the public in 2007, has about 330 shops and 30 restaurants, covering a commercial floor area of 30,000 square meters.
