Some of the key projects

Improved medical services and elderly care, public safety and transport enhancements are the focus of the Minhang District government this year. A list of “practical works” scheduled for 2014 has been released. It includes:

• Medical services and elderly care

The district will add nine ambulances this year to its fleet of 64 ambulances Three first-aid stations will be set up in Hongqiao, Meilong and Gumei areas. Each site will be equipped with two ambulances.

Services for senior citizens will be strengthened in six neighborhood communities with high populations of elderly. Improvements will be made in the realms of daily nursing care, nutrition and entertainment functions.

• Public safety

One hundred neighborhoods will have their fire control facilities and equipment upgraded. Officials said out-dated facilities pose fire risks. In addition, the district will recruit volunteers to visit neighborhoods to discuss fire safety measures. All elderly care homes in the district will receive new sprinklers, alarms and other fire prevention devices.

Flood monitoring systems will be installed under the 15 overpasses in the district. During the rainy season, information on flooding will be collected and dispatched to traffic police, who can set up detours where necessary.
