Spring City praise for Koreans
TEN teenage South Korean volunteers were bathed in sweat when cleaning, weeding lawns and visiting the elderly in the community called Shanghai Spring City in the city's Meilong Township.
A 79-year-old woman surnamed Yao said she was surprised to find that the foreign teenagers were so good at doing the chores.
"We are happy to have them here, they have a lot of interesting things to tell us," said Yao.
The South Korean team of community volunteers in Shanghai was set up last April. All 44 members in the team are students and teachers from local South Korean schools.
The team would visit seniors' homes, schools for deaf children and some community service centers every week to do whatever they can to help.
At Spring City the residents were full of praise for their hard work as they removed the weeds from the community's flower beds and entertained residents with dancing and singing.
