Stretching the horizon

INTERNATIONAL courses offered at the Minhang Middle School are proving to be very popular with students since they were introduced in September.

International business and international customs are the two hottest courses on the list of elective subjects.

Yu Anmin, headmaster at the school, said the courses offer students a wider view of the world without having to go overseas.

The courses are based on curricula from abroad.

At the same time, ties between Minhang Middle School and foreign sister schools are increasing.

"Cultural communications aren't unilateral," Yu said. "Students can achieve a higher level of foreign language proficiency."

About 10 students from the school go on to study abroad, and the number is growing.

The International Courses Center at the school offers free counseling services to students who want to plan their future study paths.

"The center's aim is not to send all of our students abroad," said the headmaster.

"We help them attain an international view and give options to students in international courses," he added.
