Technology will turn Minhang into a wireless wonderland

IN July, Minhang District was selected as the first "TD Net Construction Experimental District" of Shanghai and will introduce the domestic 3G technology TD-SCDMA into four fields including health, education, city management and community service. Recently, the designs of TD application projects have been finished, picturing a wonderful wireless life for citizens.

Baby Online

When school is over or at parent-teacher meetings you'll always see the teacher surrounded by parents asking questions about their child's performance in school. However, in the future this situation may change starting with kindergartens in Minhang. This is because the "Baby Online" system, an experiment in the field of education and one of TD's projects is being trailed in Minhang.

Cameras in all the participating kindergartens involved in the "Baby Online" plan, will transmit video to parents' cell phones of their children so that they can monitor their children wherever they are. A parenting forum and child-care guidance will also be available on "Baby Online."

Online Health Record

A similar remote service is being pioneered in the field of health. Known as the "Motive Medic Service Platform," this project allows users to check their medical records no matter where they are, using cell phone and online technology. If you need medical treatment outside of Minhang, doctors can also view your health record on the Internet to make an accurate judgment. It will also make it convenient for health care services to update health records and make reservations for patients.

Community Notice

Community notice boards have always been important to citizens as a place where people can gather all kinds of community information. But when TD technology is introduced into Minhang citizens' common life, these notice boards will be gradually replaced by cell phone screens.

Through the "Community Information Platform," various local information from power cuts to community elections will be publicized directly through a cell phone terminal. In addition, the platform is bidirectional - if citizens have an opinion or suggestions on city management and community work, they can express them through this platform.

Since there are so many different platforms for TD net projects, will it be inconvenient for citizens? According to the Minhang Science Committee, the answer is no: all the service platforms will be connected to one central portal. Citizens can simply choose different platforms through the portal.

All these projects are expected to be completed by the end of next year. By then, there will be more than 90,000 citizens benefiting from the projects. If their families are taken into account, more than 10 percent of the entire Minhang population will be involved in the TD service.
