WORLD Environment Day was celebrated in the Minhang District this month with a series of activities.
Many businesses and green groups presented new and practical ideas for preserving the environment.
For example, The Shanghai Friends of Nature Ecological Protection has recommended a way to recycle water from community dispensers into irrigation systems and for use in cleaning.
The "balcony garden" was also an idea promoted during the events. The protection group designed a multi-layered shelf to enable apartment owners to grow more vegetables at home. Free door-to-door instruction on apartment gardens is also provided.
Recently, a rental business for LED lamps has sprung up to help those on limited incomes reduce their energy bills. The Green Pioneer Shanghai center provides the energy-efficient lamps at discounted rental prices.
