Tourism boost sought from Expo

A GRAND theme evening show of tourism took place on January 1 in Minhang Gymnasium as Shanghai Party Secretary Yu Zhengsheng announced the launch of "2010 Expo Tourist Year."

The "2010 Expo Tourist Year" is organized by the National Tourism Administration, Ministry of Culture, the State Administration of Radio Film & Television and the Shanghai Government.

Under this theme, there will be a series of promotion activities for Expo tourism.

Over 1,200 attendees watched the magnificent show, including the first group of foreign tourists of 2010.

"I visited Shanghai several years ago," said one foreign tourist who was invited to the show. "With the coming Expo, I want to learn more about this country."

According to official estimates, over 3.5 million foreign tourists are expected to visit Shanghai during the World Expo.

"We'll try to attract more and more foreign tourists to come to Shanghai, experiencing the Expo and traveling around China with the best services and the best environment," said Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng.

As one of the participants in the promotion, Minhang is making efforts to perfect its own tourism system, improving basic tourism facilities and current information platforms. With the opportunity provided by the Expo, Minhang is looking forward to expanding tourism and increasing growth in the economy.
