Training programs aid household workers
AYI, the traditional domestic helpers in China, are undergoing training to get household service certification.
Ten companies providing ayis are now offering the training. It’s aimed at guaranteeing employers that the helper they hire is competent and trustworthy.
Employers can check information on potential hires by scanning the QRcodes of applicants with their smartphones. They can check name, education, work experience and special skills.
The same information is also available on the official website of the Shanghai Household Service Association www.962512.com.
“It is really better to know that an ayi who will be taking care of a newborn baby is well-trained and qualified for the job,” said Yu Wei, a Minhang resident. “We have heard of a lot of cases where ayis were incompetent.”
Wanxin Household Service Co in Minhang, said certified ayis typically find work easily once training is completed. The certificate gives employers a sense of security.
The company now has 73 certificated ayis and will train more next year.
The association said for the next three to five years, the certificate will be promoted to all the ayis working in the city. There will also be an online evaluation system for employers to give scores to ayis and household service companies.
