Trash workers recover lost valuable
XINHONG Public Sanitary Co recently saved the day after an employee from Shanghai Chuanwen Industry Co carelessly left an important electronic device in a railway station.
Late last month, Xinhong received a phone call from Chuanwen explaining that the remote device for new cleaning equipment imported from Sweden had been inadvertently left at the ticket office of Hongqiao Railway Station.
“The company said the equipment would be useless without the remote,” said Yu Pinghui, an official with Xinhong. “It would take two months to buy a new one, and the economic loss they faced was around 600,000 yuan (US$96,060).
With all the waste of the day due to be transported to the port at 1am, Yu called in 15 sanitary workers from the night shift to sift through the rubbish. Eight tons of rubbish, to be precise. After three hours, the device was found.
The Chuanwen company promised to pay the workers extra for their trouble, but the offer was declined.
“It’s our company’s policy to help people,” said Yu. “Our workers once took care of an abandoned baby and helped a lost senior find her way home. This is just another incident in a long line of service.”
