Trolley mishap

Supermarket chain Tesco was ordered by Minhang District People's Court to pay 14,857 yuan (US$2,286) in compensation to a customer surnamed Chen, who was hit by a runaway shopping trolley.
Chen visited a Tesco branch in Xinzhuang and was hurt on the escalator when a trolley behind him failed to lock into place. Tesco claimed the customer who was using the trolley should bear liability for the accident, but the court ruled that the faulty trolley was the responsibility of the supermarket.
