Vice squad seeks to break ring of call girls

Minhang police said they cracked down on an online prostitution ring involving more than 10 people.
The group was using several online chat groups to solicit business.
Police said the prostitutes disguised themselves as air attendants, postgraduate students, models or actresses. One call girl surnamed Wang created an elaborate “history” for herself, claiming she was half-French, fluent in several languages and the runner-up in a world beauty contest.
“The more exotic the resume, the higher the fee they charged,” said Chen Yunfeng, deputy director of the security team of the bureau.
“They usually arranged to meet clients in luxury hotels or on short trips, with customers paying the cost. The girls were charging at least 5,000 yuan (US$787) a time for their services,” he added.
Police said classier prostitutes can earn around 100,000 yuan a month.
Many spend big sums on plastic surgery in South Korea and buy luxurious skin-care products to make themselves look younger.
“During our raids in Minhang, Putuo and Jing’an districts, we could hardly distinguish one hooker from another,” said Chen. “In interrogation, they told us that they all had undergone plastic surgery at the same Korean hospital.”
Prostitutes who attempt to parlay themselves into wealthy social circles with false resumes are called “outer-ring girls.” Many of their clients are the “silver-spoon kids” of wealthy businessmen or public officials.
The case is under further investigation, said police.
