Warehouse converted into venue of culture
After a year of reconstruction, Zhuanqiao Town has converted 38 rice warehouses into a cultural and creative park.
The warehouses were the biggest complex left on Guanghua Road, but they have been vacant for many years.
The town began reconstruction last October.
Roofing material was added to reflect about 97 percent of radiant heat, and building and foundations are enhanced by steel reinforced mesh.
Construction workers are now installing French windows as part of a design that will give the interiors a sense of openness.
“We want to preserve the feeling of the old warehouses, while adding modern touches,” said Chen Gong, leasing manager of Tengjin Co, which runs the park. “By combining the cultural and creative industry with aspects of the building, we are creating what will become a new landmark of the area.”
Transforming old buildings along Guanghua Road into modern use has been a focus of Zhuanqiao. The warehouse site brings to three the number of such renovations on the road.
