Works to ease traffic flow

WITH the Minhang-Songjiang section of the A8 (Shanghai-Hangzhou) Expressway being reconstructed, the surface road in Minhang is at the same time being expanded.

This will greatly ease heavy traffic flow in the western part of the district and set up a quick, convenient traffic route linking Minhang, the city center and expressways like the A4 (Xinzhuang-Fengxian-Jinshan) and Outer-Ring Road.

Minhang Construction and Traffic Commission plans to extend the northern tip of Xinfu Road and connect it with the A8 surface road.

This will enable residents living in Xinsong area to drive directly to the A8 without passing the crowded Xinsong Tunnel.

Baochun and Yazhi roads will be extended for western bound traffic and linked with Qixin Road, greatly easing pressure on Miaojing Road, the only road leading to Qixin Road for locals.

The four-lane Qixin Road is almost at capacity, especially in rush hours when traffic can be backed up from Shuying to Xinsong roads.

The commission plans to expand the road from four lanes to nine lanes in the Shuying Road-Xinbei Road section, a project scheduled to be completed at the end of this year.

The A8 surface road expansion will be completed next March whereas the 2.47-kilometer section from the western Beizhugang to the eastern Xizhuan Bridge will be opened by the end of this year.
