Xiangming High School to open branch in Pujiang Town

THE century-old Xiangming High School in Luwan District is opening a new campus in Minhang's Pujiang Town, welcoming the first batch of freshmen in September.

By the end of 2012, the branch school will have 24 classes and around 960 students. The campus is about 4 hectares.

A contract signed early this month requires that 60 percent of the students will be Minhang residents.

Prestigious Xiangming School has collaborated with the town since 2006 when the Xiangming Shibo Middle School was established to promote advanced concepts such as "Happy Study" and "Learn with Passion," among schools in Pujiang.

"Students in Minhang and Luwan districts will share exactly the same educational resources, including faculty and management team, among others," says Headmaster Rui Renjie.

He calls it a win-win for Xiangming, because setting up the Pujiang branch can establish a healthy competition among local key schools such as Qibao and Minhang high schools.

Minhang District has 230 educational institutions, ranging from primary to high schools, more than 10,000 teachers and about 150,000 students.

The average schooling period for Minhang residents is 13.5 years, compared with 12 years of schooling five years ago.
