You’re clocked! Student e-card debuts
More than 100,000 students in middle and primary schools in Minhang have started to use new e-student cards — the first issued in Shanghai.
This card records complete information about studies, health and social activities.
“Minhang is forming a database of students’ lives and educational progress,” Wang Hao, director of the Minhang Education Bureau, said during an interview on the Eastday.com.
Compared with traditional student cards, the e-cards go beyond mere ID.
They compile records of entries through doors, book borrowing in libraries, sports exercises, health checks and education achievement levels.
Card-reading machines have been installed in the Minhang Youth Activity Center, Spaceflight Center, and Zhang Chongren Memorial to record visits.
Officials said the data will help schools fine-tune curricula, adjust library times to hours of greatest use and better manage schools.
