Fine art lands at Pudong airport鈥檚 new gallery
PASSENGERS and staff at Pudong International Airport can enjoy a moment of leisure by appreciating fine art before take-off. An art gallery and museum at the airport’s restricted areas exhibits paintings, sculptures and all antiques all-year-long.
Situated among the boarding gates in Terminal 1, an art gallery opened in December is among the airport’s latest efforts to promote art at the transport hub.
With the new gallery, the airport authority aims to present the haipai (Shanghai-style) culture to the world.
Twenty-two oil paintings were exhibited at the gallery as the opening exhibition.
The Pudong airport set up the first airport museum in the country in 2014. Located in the international waiting hall in Terminal 2, the museum has won praise from domestic and foreign visitors alike.
A teapot exhibition is now being held at the Museum of Pudong Airport. Most of the pieces on display are delicate works of craftsmanship and have a unique style.
The museum offers another choice for people waiting for flights, other than duty-free shops and cafés. The exhibition changes periodically and admission is free.
The museum is situated near Gate 90 in Terminal 2 building. By 2020, Pudong airport is expected to handle up to 80 million passengers annually. This means a potentially huge audience for the airport’s cultural amenities.
