Wildlife Park finds cool ways to bring creatures some comfort

THE Siberian tigers lie under the tree shadow, sticking out their tongues while breathing heavily. With the temperature climbing over 35 degrees Celsius, Shanghai is obviously too hot for the tigers coming from a cool-temperature zone.
At Shanghai Wildlife Park in Pudong New Area, a man-made water area of 3,000 square meters was recently built for the tigers, which seems to be soothing them from the summer sizzle, based on their behavior. The Siberian tigers jump into their Òswimming poolÓ one after another and usually spend half their day in it.
Meanwhile, the monkeys are getting ice bars on their wet concrete floor, where the zookeepers jet water to combat the sustained hot weather.
There are other steps.
From providing light and refreshing summer fare to making sure the facilities are cool, Shanghai Wildlife Park has come up with numerous ways to help its animals cope with the relentless heat of summer in Shanghai.
