District workers named models for dedication
Three Putuo workers originally from out of town were recognized as model workers of their peers in Shanghai.
Xiao Yurong, Xu Saiying and Wang Xiaoping were given rewards for their excellence and dedication to their work.
Lead nurse
Xiao is a nurse at Putuo Social Welfare Institute and has been taking care of elders there for more than a decade. As the lead nurse in the special care department, she’s responsible for 28 elders who suffer from various diseases.
She not only uses her skills and knowledge, but also treats others with a loving heart. Xiao works the day shift, but during the holidays when her colleagues leave for home, she often works all day long, taking care of the elders 24 hours a day.
Xiao makes soup at home and takes it to 94-year-old Gao Xiaomei, who has osteoporosis. The elder woman’s family is not usually around.
“We all will grow old, not to mention this is our job. Taking good care of the elders is everything we have,” Xiao said.
Marketing talent
Xu, originally from Da’aoli Village in Zhejiang Province, is now an executive director at the Zhonghuan Marketing and Planning Development Company.
After graduating from college in 2001, she came to Shanghai to work and joined Shanghai Zhonghuan Industrial Company. Her job was to invite businesses to join the Zhonghuan Commercial and Trade Zone.
In the half-month after she started working here, she communicated with more than 300 companies, visiting every one in person. In 2006, she and her colleagues successfully attracted 20 companies to settle down in Zhonghuan, which produced 5 million yuan (US$823,495) in tax revenues.
In 2008, her work focus shifted from attracting investments to marketing when she transferred to the current marketing and planning company, which only had three employees at the time.
Because of her efforts, the company’s revenue has been increasing by 60 percent every year and there are 12 staff members. In 2012, the company achieved profits of 2 million yuan.
Skilled technician
Wang, 39, came from Shuanglie Village in Jiangsu Province. He is the director of the electric and machinery workshop at the Putuo branch of Shanghai Guansong Automobile.
In 1996, he joined the company as an apprentice. Every day he worked 15 hours, and step by step he became a technician.
While working in administration and management, Wang not only guaranteed the completion of work quotas, but also assembled and nurtured a group of highly skilled technicians. The company has grown to fix 50,000 cars annually and achieve revenue of 45 million yuan.
