Fair held at new international sourcing center

The 2013 Private Label Fair was held at the newly constructed Shanghai Convention & Exhibition Center of International Sourcing from December 11 to 13 in Putuo District.

The annual fair has 30 years of history overseas, and it was first held in Shanghai in 2010.

Private label products include all merchandise sold under a retailer’s brand, which can be the retailer’s own name or a name created by the retailer.

It is a cost-efficient way for manufacturers to enter the retail business, especially small and medium-sized start-ups.

The market share of private labels reached 30 percent worldwide but while only 5 percent in China, the market is showing great potential.

The Private Label Fair is the only exhibition dealing with retail private labels in China, with manufacturers showing their wares. The fair is popular with both retailers and suppliers.

The fair this year had more than 400 booths featuring brands in health and beauty, food and drinks as well as grocery.

More than 50 companies from abroad participated, including Germany, Netherlands, France, Italy, Spain, the United States, Australia and South Korea.

The Idea Supermarket section of the fair included brands from a total of 18 retailers’ brands from 12 countries, which helps both the retailers and suppliers to understand the private labels through product presentation, training sessions and seminars.

The fair was presented by the Shanghai International Sourcing Promotion Center and Private Label Manufacturers Association and supported by the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce.

Shanghai Convention & Exhibition Center of International Sourcing is located on the north bank of Suzhou Creek in Changfeng Ecological Business District. It is not far away from Hongqiao Central Business District.

With an exhibition area of about 16,000 square meters, the center will accommodate meetings, exhibitions, offices and commerce and was built by Shanghai Changfeng Sourcing Investment Company.

The shell-shaped architecture was designed by Dao Design.

The center hosts international exhibitions, trade fairs and seminars regularly. There will also be a one-stop service hall that will provide assistance from Customs, banks, outward transport abroad, chambers of commerce and business services.
