Lift will make life easier for residents

Residents in a building on Meichuan Road are all smiles after construction of an elevator began.
鈥淭he preparation was quite smooth, less than one year thanks to the support from the government and everyone in the building,鈥 resident Zhu Hong said.
鈥淎fter the elevator is finished I can return home,鈥 said a man surnamed Lu, who owns an apartment in No. 7 building of Nujiangyuan residential area. He rented another place in the area as he cannot walk up the stairs to his 5th floor home due to leg problems.
After more than 30 meetings, residents reached an agreement on a project cost of 500,000 yuan (US$81,967). The government provided 40 percent of the money. Each household contributed money based on which floor they live on.
