Market reopens after face-lift
Caoyang Railway Farmers’ Market, which was first built in 1998 in Caoyang area, reopened recently after being closed three months for renovations.
The market was renovated because of its aging hardware. Residents also complained about all the motorcycles parked in the market’s walkways.
Community authorities made it one of the 10 key practical work projects to accomplish this year, uniting with the district’s commerce commission to renovate the market.
The hardware upgrade mainly focused on improving safety due to the high volume of stores and customers. For example, gas pipelines were installed on both ends to prevent usage of gas tanks; 127 fire sprinklers were installed; old water and drainage pipes and electric wires were upgraded so that each store has its own meters.
Also, the walkway was widened to 3 meters; isolation walls were built to prevent stores from making illegal extension; and LCDs were installed in all 293 stores to display prices and certificates.
A parking area outside the market was built and no motorcycles are allowed inside. Two security guards were stationed at the gate to keep order. “Such good facilities are rare in markets,” said a worker at the market.
