Quiet pictures of the trivial and the eternal
Artist Liang Yue has developed her own visual language with photographs and video installations that convey the essence of tranquility.
In her solo exhibition “The Quiet Rooms,” she explores often-ignored aspects of daily life. Through photos and videos, she contemplates the seemingly boring everydayness of life, depicting scenes of apparent triviality and eternal natural landscapes.
“The Quiet Rooms” was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival last year.
The show is underway at ShanghART H-Space through January 7.
For the past 15 years, Liang has been simplifying and refining her work by reducing the movement of the lens, using less editing and even making a silent, one-shot-only video. The works take viewers far away from the hectic city, into quiet rooms.
Born in 1979, Liang graduated from the Shanghai Art Academy.
She has had exhibitions in both China and overseas.
