Textbooks to cultivate interest in farming

PUTUO Bureau of Education has launched a series of textbooks to promote China's farming history and culture.

"Wondering in the Agriculture Garden" also aims to teach city youngsters about the science of farming, according to the education authority.

The textbooks, published by Juvenile & Children's Publishing House, include three volumes specifically for primary, middle and high schools.

The books resulted from a serious of activities hosted by the bureau's basic education department in a two-year project which began in 2011 to gather ideas from teachers and students.

Through vivid characters and scenes, the textbooks introduce a wide range of agriculture and general farming knowledge to students, as well as focusing on research and the application of basic materials.

Each chapter is divided into different sections such as "Knowledge Palace," "Exhibition Hall," "Creative Garden" and "Experimental Field" to encourage students' interest.
