Blossoms brighten the fall landscape

SEVERAL landscaping projects recently completed in Songjiang New City have given the area a golden look of late autumn.

A topiary garden near the local government offices features the shapes of traditional Chinese stringed Chinese instruments such as the pipa and erhu fiddles.

The instruments are linked by colored vines pruned to represent a five-line musical staff.

Several steps away at Shenyue Square, a green phoenix spreads its wings and looks set to soar. It is surrounded by a sea of flowers.

Near the Metro Line 9 station on Tongyue Road, the street wall is covered with greenery and 66 flower pots hanging there.

Along the underpass at the Renmin Road N. Highway, about 300 pots of flowers have been hung to relieve the concrete grayness.

In the central park by Songjia Road, the landscape is awash with magnolias, purple morning glories, orange Chinese ixora and light yellow French marigolds, lending a touch of romance to a busy thoroughfare.
